to reports, Beckham is
hoping to build a 25,000-seater ground on the Miami waterfront, and he
confirmed that it's been promised that they will be 'downtown'. MLS commissioner Don Garber indicated that plans for a stadium hadn't been rubber-stamped, stating that they will 'continue our work to find a project that makes for the public and our fans, so that we can finalise our plan to get back into this city.
'This is the first time in the modern era that an ex-athlete has become an owner. I am thrilled to announce that David Beckham has exercised his right.'
Beckham and Garber were joined by Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez, who couldn't contain his enthusiasm at the prospect of Beckham heading football's future in the state.
On a new stadium, Gimenez added: 'We need to get rolling with it. We think this will be the MLS' most successful franchise, especially with the Beckham brand here. We want the stadium built in the right place and as quickly as possible.'
